Thanks for the email. Isn't it wonderful working for God?
My job title is "Missionary/English Teacher." I officially work for the District Superintendent of the Czech United Methodist Church. However, I work closely with the pastor of our local Prague congregation, the Evangelical Methodist Church. I assist her in "all things English language." I teach English to District Superintendent and his staff along with four area Methodist pastors.
I also teach English at the Majak Christian Community Center. The center of part of the Methodist church's outreach efforts. Since Christians are rare here, many consider us to be "cult like." By getting folks to come to Majak (that's Czech for "The Lighthouse") for English lessons, free time activities, a mother's center, game rooms, and internet cafe, people come to know that we are "normal" and learn Christian ethics.
I also host an English language home group. I am on the early-morning prayer team. I am the greeter for all English speaking Christians who visit us and make sure that their needs are met while they are in Prague.
Each summer I teach at English Camps throughout the Czech Republic where we teach English lessons in the morning, and Bible lessons in the afternoon. These camps are often the first time many students learn about Jesus. Last summer, I was blessed to have two of my students come to Christ on the last evening of one of the camps. I'm sure that is much more than you would ever want to know. I do stay busy. God Bless You and the wonderful work you do at New Horizon. Ray
