Special Events

We really, really like to have fun and we love kids so throughout the year we host a variety of activities designed to have tons of fun with our friends, family and neighbors. Below is a partial list of the events we love to host, but there are always new ideas springing up. (If you or your child has an idea - contact us.)

A few of the fun events we have planned...

Listed below are a few of the events that we have going on throughout the year in Adventureland.  This is on top of the fun we have each and every Sunday morning and on Wednesday evenings at R.O.C.K!

  • Sleep Over Saturday
This is a special weekend for Adventureland kids to invite a friend to spend the night at their own home and enjoy movies, games and food together Saturday night. Then, the next morning, still in their pajamas, attend Adventureland for games, breakfast and a teaching with their friends.
  • Vacation Bible School
Imagine 200 kids 4 years old through sixth grade converging onto New Horizon with excitement in their eyes for a week of singing, dramas, Bible stories, puppets, games, snacks, crafts, and other crazy-exciting fun. Vacation Bible School is held the last full week of June.
  • Summer Splash
Possibly the most pools, water balloons, slip and slides and other wet and wild activities a church is permitted to have in the Champaign/Urbana area on a Saturday in July.
  • Dinner and a Movie
Plenty of hot pepperoni and cheese pizzas wait for you followed by a movie chosen by the elementary Adventureland kids.  Bring a pillow and blanket to spread out on the floor or sit in one of our chairs.
  • Friend Day
While every day is a great day to invite a friend to church, this day in particular is designed for both adults and kids to invite their friends. A dynamic speaker, performer or group is invited to speak during the worship experiences followed by a carnival-type party outside for kids of all ages.

  • You Can’t Do THAT At Church
Remember when you were a kid and wanted to do that one thing at school or church you knew was off limits? In Adventureland imagine doing some of those things along with messy games like Cheeto Head in which you wear a shower cap covered in shaving cream and your friend attempt to land as many Cheetos on it as possible. Plastic tarps and old clothes are a must.

  • Great October Days
An alternative to traditional Trick-or-Treating this event allows kids to wear their costumes, play as many games as they can and enjoy more candy than any child should eat in week! Great October Days is held Halloween night each year.
